How does the Adopt a horse program work? Do I get to have the horse?

The money donated for this program goes directly to the care and feeding of the animals at the park. The sponsorship does not provide any rights towards ownership or control of any animal; the horse remains at the park. Your sponsorship dollars are used to defray the cost of maintaining our quality horse programs.

What will I do if I volunteer?

Volunteers will be filling many duties, stable chores and feeding animals are only one part. Volunteer positions requiring riding have a mandatory skill test prior to volunteering. Non-riding duties are plentiful! There will be special events to organize and staff, work party days where groups work on keeping up the trails and other park areas. Volunteers also will work as park guides on special event days, assisting with parking, information booth manning, etc.

What are the requirements to volunteer?

The Park District requires that all volunteers be at least 13 years of age. You must fill out the volunteer information packet prior to working. The interest survey found on this site can be printed and turned in, to give Lockwood staff an idea of your particular talents and skills.
